Plants in Science Lessons.
In Spring Term 2011 we studied Plants in Science lessons. Every week, we would learn something new about plants. It was lots of fun, and a wonderful educational experience for all of us! Here you can see some of the things we did.
Growing beans
The children were very excited to see how their bean seeds grew from tiny little balls into plants with leaves and roots. They kept diaries in which they predicted how the meng beans would grow and then recorded how they did develop. Eventually, we planted some of them in soil.
Plants Games and Activities
In Science and in other lessons, the children learned lots of things about plants. We read and played a story (written by Mr. Kohll, I hope you like it!) about discovering new plants in America, hundreds of years ago. We used the Year 1 wordsearch to find plants words, and the children played computer games to learn about plants in ICT club, ICT lessons and for homework.
Dyeing Plants
We did a fun experiment to see what happens to plants - flowers - when you put them in coloured water. The experiment is to learn about how plants suck up water, how water helps plants to live, and what happens to plants without roots after a while.
Our trip to Cao Zhuang Botanical Gardens
To complete our study of plants in science Year 1, Year 2 and Reception class visited Cao Zhuang Botanical Gardens. It was a wonderful day out! The children saw many different kinds of plants and talked about their leaves, roots, flowers and seeds. Next week we will work in English lessons to write about our experiences. Take a look at these photos!
